Getting Ready

Taking a few extra minutes in the driveway or parking lot to check your car can save many headaches down the road.

  • Check your mirrors. A few simple steps can ensure that your “second set of eyes” is as efficient as possible. The AAA Foundation offers step by step instructions for adjusting your mirrors as well as a video that explains how to tell if your mirrors are properly adjusted.
  • Adjust your head restraint. A properly positioned headrest can prevent severe neck injuries in case of a collision. Reach behind you with both arms, firmly grasp the headrest, and pull up. The center of the headrest should coincide directly with the back of your head.
  • Rental cars can be another source of frustration, especially when paired with an unfamiliar city. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the most important controls: windshield wipers, lights, mirrors, seat position, and windows. You don't want to be fumbling around for the proper switch while you are driving in unfamiliar surroundings.

AAA may offer the CarFit program in your community. A list of upcoming events
